| HACKERS
Hacking code is the art of making
changes to software after it has be compiled. This is accomplished for many reasons, some
legal some not.
Computer Code is normally "Hacked " to alter it
so that an individual may IMPROVE or ALTER the code to perform a similar or different
objective. In many cases a Computer Code designed to perform a task may have a
"Bug" and someone will "hack" the code to discover the "bug"
and fix it.
When a "hacker" "hacks" a code, they
may do so for illegal endeavor, such as disabling a software or programs need for a
password, allowing the hacker to use the software or program withgout paying for it.
Though many hackers hack for the "fun" of
Hacking, the dangerous fact is that only one simple hacker may destroy a lefetime of work,
breach national security, even shut down a country's civil or commercail viability.
Genuine hackers study the web and various software
and operating systems to learn just how each performs and operates. Most are dedicated to
what the do, and, eventually write some of the most utilized scripts, softyware packages
and operating systems. With out legitimate "hacking" we would not have had the
explosive nature of the "web". In fact, most of the greatest operating systems,
those programs that run the very web and net, where designe dfrom this very method.
In fact, Hackers can do things the rest of the world can
not even imagine.
Hackers come in several catergories.
The word HACKER is used by the computer industry to describe all catergories:
1. Hackers - The Code freaks -
They study until they know computers and their operating systems inside and out.
(i think someone wanted a better explaination offered, so here it goes)
I gathered from your website (HackHunters) that you aren't
clear about the
definition of the word "hacker." Here's some help:
From The New Hacker's Dictionary, 3rd Edition
hacker n. [originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe]
1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable
systems
and how to stretch their
capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the
minimum necessary.
[...]
6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy
hacker, for example.
7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively
overcoming
or circumventing limitations.
I hope that clears things up.

2.Crackers -
....can break into any computer system, and/or Operating System. They defeat
your security withut you being aware.
3.CypherPunks -
masters of cryptography
4.Phreakers -
uses phone systems to Hcak Computer systems
5.Script Kiddies -
Beginners who cause the most havoc due to their inexperience .......
Knowledge
the True Hacker must acquire, though most Hackers will eventually
specialize in only one or more of these areas:
1.Hackers:
provide the tools find them and play around when you get inside
2.Crackers:
find the door and trick it open , they find an "open" window
3.CypherPunks:
provides the keys to the "car" , able to defeat the SECURITY of a system
4.Phreakers
confuse and cover tracks through phone systems
SECURITY
There are many types of hackers.
The Curious:
Using programs such as telnet and ftp. The Curious begin their Discovery by trying
out the various commands of these programs on YOUR SERVER . Though they may not mean
to be malicious, they may cause damage, and sometimes serious damage.. such as changing
permissions or altering passwords. Good security is the best prevention
Script Kiddies:
These are the "beginners" who may one day become a true hacker. Do to the
fact they have no idea how a network functions, instead of attempting to penetrate a
system without leaving a trail, they BLUNDER into a system, often causiing damage. Do the
thousands of automated hacker programs available for download from the net, they are
rapidily becoming a serious endangerment to the web. Many of these individuals perform
damage when venting anger at other individuals. They seem to enjoy hacking into web sites
and altering them. While standard Quality Security provides some protection, the
rapid escalation of increasingly easy to use hacking programs in the DOS catergory, are
propelling these acts to higher levals of sophistication.
Wannabes:
wannabes are Script Kiddies who have "taken" to the calling. They are
more advanced and dedicated. Most desire to "make a name" for them selves.
Wannabes are a serious threat due to the fact they now believe "the higher the
target, the better the name".
The Elite Level:
Called the White, Grey, or Black, this is a group that has become sophisticated.
The COLORS represent the motivation and goals of each GROUP.
White Hats:
are your security consultants, Sysops, Cybercops and the like.
Black Hats:
are the dangerous characters.. virus creators, cyber spy's, Cyber Terrorists and
CyberCrooks.
Grey Hats:
this group is considered the hackers for fun and knowlege types, re-inventing
scripts, cgi, pearl, php3, java, active X, and everything form shoppimg carts to operating
programs. In fact, it is this "fun" that leads to the writing of the very
scripts we mentioned above in the Kiddie Paragraph
